Dublin Gig Guide: 11th – 17th December 2017
Christy Moore will make a very welcome return to Vicar Street for a brace of gigs this December & January 2018, good news for all who have made it an annual visit, Christy returns with a new album On The Road, which was released on November 17th. Over the past two years, Christy has recorded all gigs and gleaned this collection which features 24 songs recorded at 17 venues (including 3 tracks from Vicar St). Christy looks forward to returning to this great venue where he has performed almost 200 times, with no two shows ever being the same! Also on Monday night, we have the Les McKeown & the Bay City Rollers! Playing a sold out Olympia Theatre and promises to be a unique voyage back to the 1970s, when Les and his legendary band ruled the world’s pop charts and The Bay City Rollers’ music became the soundtrack for a generation of teenagers!
Christy Moore takes the stage again on Tuesday evening while over in Whelan’s Upstairs on Wednesday night, we have Irish singer-songwriter Peppy with Conor Mason providing the support!
Moving on to Thursday we have English metal band SikTh! SikTh’s style of music is hard to categorise and as they incorporate many different elements of technical metal, metalcore, death metal, groove metal, rock and hardcore. They are commonly categorised as progressive metal due to their unorthodox approach, as well as technical metal and mathcore due to the complex nature of their instrumental playing abilities! This is a huge booking for The Bowery who are much more used to having singer-songwriters perform but SikTh must be one of their biggest bookings to date! Follow the link below for ticket info! Also playing on Thursday night is Mark Geary. Playing at The Underground, his latest release The Fool has seen him tour Germany & Switzerland with shows in Berlin, Munich and Bern!
Kicking off the weekend in style, we have the Happy Mondays! Following last year’s sensational Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches shows at Vicar Street, one of Britain’s most culturally significant band return to the venue for the full greatest hits show. With special guest Jon Dasilva on the night! Over in Whelan’s we have Bleeding Heart Pigeons The Irish trio of Micháel Keating, Cathal Histon and Brendan McInerney under the guise of Bleeding Heart Pigeons. They are set to release their debut, self-titled EP on 16th December through Virgin and have secured a slot in Whelan’s in promo of the release! You can also catch Krystal Klear playing alongside Jackmaster and Dubstep legend Skream in District 8 as part of Krystal Klears 30th Birthday bash, be sure to make it down it’s going to be a fantastic night!
Saturday night, The Eskies perform at the Button Factory! The Eskies have brought this unique brand of folk noir/gypsy jazz/sea shanty and swaggering stage spectacle to ballrooms and booze houses far and wide, sullying soirees and lowering inhibitions of get togethers and social occasions wherever they have ventured! Goldenplec said about their latest album – “The album is a raucous fanfare of folk, swamp blues and unquenchable merriment, paired with brain-burrowing melodies and witty lyrics, delivered at breakneck speed.” They hit the Button Factory Saturday night! While over in Index, techno heavyweight Dave Clarke will be making his familiar appearance to Dublin around this time of year!
Closing out the week is Hudson Taylor who will be performing another sold out gig at Whelan’s while Glen Hansard is bringing the big band back together with strings, horns, bells and whistles to perform two Christmas shows at Vicar Street!
