Dublin Gig Guide : 12th – 18th June 2017

As we are well into June now, the Summer gigs are coming thick and fast! With Forbidden Fruit and Vantastival last weekend we have the Malahide Castle gigs and the Trinity Summer gigs only around the corner! But there’s loads of other great stuff happening over the week in Dublin so let’s crack on with it!

Kicking us off on Monday night we have American singer-songwriter Jackson Browne playing Vicar Street for a number of sold out shows! Browne has sold over 18 million albums worldwide and this time around himself his band will be performing all the hits from over the years and will play a total of 3 shows in Dublin before heading off to the UK for a gig at The Royal Albert Hall! Tuesday night sees legendary composer, musician, and performer Hans Zimmer perform on his first ever tour with Johnny Marr! The man behind the soundtracks such as Gladiator, Lion King, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Pirates Of The Caribbean and many more will be playing this once off show in the 3 Arena as part of his word wide tour including shows in Stockholm, London, Boston and Montreal! With still a few tickets left for this one be sure to grab one while you can!

Wednesday night is jam-packed with something on for everyone, first off in the 3 Arena we have Aerosmith, legendary rock-band are performing as part of their “Aero-Verderci Baby” tour which they have been calling a farewell tour so could this be your last chance to see “The Bad Boys of Boston”! Across town, The Academy plays host to the Devin Townsend Project. Townsend made a name for himself early on in his career from working with guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, including recording vocals for his album Sex & Religion and then touring the album. Townsend was discouraged by the music industry after the tour and began to write his own solo material and from this, extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad was born. Founder, songwriter, and lead vocalist of the band, they released four albums before disbanding in 2007. Townsend still releases music under various side-project names. Finally on Wednesday night, Arcade Fire recently released a new single that is due on the upcoming album “Everything Now” which sets us up nicely for this performance at Malahide Castle! Expect to hear some new tracks as well as the old classic crowd pleasers!

Taking the stage over at the Leopardstown festival on Thursday night is The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow! With performances around the city and Electric Picnic under his belt, it’s sure to be a great night of music and festivities. Meanwhile, over in The Olympia Theatre we have punk rock band Paramore making their return to Ireland! Off the back of the success of their most recent album “After Laughter” this gig is SOLD OUT! Doors for this one are 7PM with Paramore due on-stage around 9PM! Finally for Thursday night we have another sold out gig but this time its over in The Academy where we have American hard-rock band Clutch, performing as part of a European tour which includes gigs at Hellfest in France and as well as shows in Chicago, Belgium, London and Sweden!

Friday night we have Techno superstar Todd Terje playing at the hottest new EDM venue in Dublin, District 8! Todd Terje has been around for years and never disappoints when he plays in Dublin and this show is not going to be any different! Doors at 11PM for this one! Meanwhile, over in The Wright Venue in Swords we have Jenny Greene, who will be spinning records from 10PM onwards!

Saturday night we have another triple header of fantastic shows for you! First off is ex Take That superstar Robbie Williams who will be playing at the Aviva Stadium! Arguably the most talented member of Take That, Robbie has had a phenomenal solo career and has released countless albums. Tickets are still available so be sure to get them before they all get snapped up last minute! We also have The 1975 performing in Malahide Castle for the second gig there this week! The pop-rock outfit will be playing to a sold out crowd so be sure to get there early for the best spots! Closing up Saturday night we have Techno guru, Dave Clarke. Clarke is very familiar with Dublin and has played here countless times over the course of his career, if it’s powerful, hard, driving, techno you seek on Saturday night, then head down to Index to catch Mr. Clarke do what he does best! Doors at 11PM!

One last thing is our GIG OF THE WEEK! Every week at Sound Training it gets more difficult to choose a gig of the week, especially with a week such as this, there is so much variety it makes it tough to pick a winner. We have decided that this weeks winner has to be ARCADE FIRE at Malahide Castle! With the group recently signing a new two-album deal, we cannot wait for the first of those to hit the shelves, we are predicting a number of new tracks to be performed at the gig so let’s all keep out fingers crossed!
