Dublin Gig Guide: 12th – 18th March 2018
Ah it’s Sunday once again! Time to wash away those blues with our weekly Dublin Gig Guide! With Saturday being St. Patrick’s Day there will be an abundance of music across all the pubs & clubs so get your Green on and get out for some Trad! Let’s start the week off on Monday as always! We’ve got Rejjie Snow playing in the Olympia Theatre, Rejji is an Irish hip-hop artist, his debut album, Dear Annie, hit the shelves back in February and is very, very impressive. It’s executive produced by Rahki, who won a Grammy with Kendrick Lamar, and it’s already given us a handful of impressively (though not unexpectedly) diverse gifts! Meanwhile another Irish superstar will be playing at the 3 Arena, Niall Horan hot off the release of his new album October 2017 album “Flicker”, he plays 2 shows as part of European tour which also includes shows in New Zealand & Australia!
Lű Tysky is delighted to announce a far-too overdue gig in Whelan’s on Tuesday night! A post from the band themselves reads “We are full of jubilation and hope you are too! Come again to the land of Shangri-la to award your ears with euphony! This time, with the addition of the comely and dead sound Nathan O’Maoilearca on bass, and support from Tobi The Dog! At an outstanding price of only 8/5 Euro (Adult/Student, student I.D. required), you’d be a fool to miss out on this ethereal escape. You’re also probably not a good person.” Be sure to get down and check them out! Also on Tuesday, we have the rescheduled date from back in January when Erasure postponed their gig in the Olympia Theatre and that kicks off at 7PM!
Wednesday night we’ve got The Wombats playing a sold out show in The Academy! Their latest effort, ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’ sees The Wombats continuing to assert themselves as one of the biggest and best guitar pop sensations of our time. 2015’s ‘Glitterbug’ LP saw a UK Top 5 Album, headline show at Alexandra Palace, and has currently received over 200 million digital streams! Meanwhile drums & bass duo Death From Above 1979 will be playing at Tivoli Theatre (venue changed from Olympia Theatre). In promotion of their latest album Outrage is Now, DFA will embark on a UK & Ireland tour! Tickets from the Olympia are 100% valid.
Thursday night, also at the Tivoli Theatre, we have the “MacHine Messiah Tour 2018” taking place! Featuring Sepultura, Obscura, GoatWhore & Fit For An Autopsy who will all be performing on the night! If technical/black/death metal is your thing this is the gig for you! Be sure to grab a ticket, and at only €30 for such a great line-up you’d be crazy not to get one!
Kicking off Paddy’s weekend we’ve got Stereophonics playing in the 3 Arena from 6.30pm and we’ve got house/electro act Detroit Swindle playing at Pygmalion to get us all warmed up for Paddy’s day! For the day that’s in it, anywhere and everywhere you go on Saturday there will be some sort of live music so we’ve decided against listing off where to go, and just provided you with a full Facebook event page of what’s on so you can make up your own mind!
For many a sore head that there will be on Sunday, Klangrussel will be playing at the Button Factory and Ailie will be performing in Whelan’s! Fresh from Whelan’s Ones To Watch 2018 and Templebar TradFest, Leitrim’s Ailie Blunnie takes her critically-acclaimed blend of experimental folktronic music to the main stage of Whelan’s for the first time! It’s sure to be a great night, and nothing better to wind down after St. Patricks Day!
