Dublin Gig Guide 20th – 26th February

Dublin Gig Guide 20th – 26th February

It’s Friday and that can mean only one thing…It’s the Dublin Gig Guide brought to you by Sound Training! As the year progresses on more and more headline gigs are being announced every week, Arcade Fire announced a massive show in Malahide Castle later on this year and it is sure to be a great show as they haven’t performed in Ireland since 2014! Also announced is a string of mouth-watering gigs this summer all set to take place over the span of 5 days. Acts announced include Pixies, Fangclub, Bell X1, Alt-J and many more the summer is looking good for live music! Hopefully the weather can hold off and maybe we might even get some sunshine!

Anyway back to what’s important, this weeks gigs! This week we have a jam-packed week of gigs with lots of Irish talent performing around the city. Kicking us off this week is Drake playing the 3 Arena, his second headline show of the year be sure to grab a ticket as standing is SOLD OUT but you can still get seated tickets! Tuesday night, we have alternative-electric-jazz outfit Dinosaur performing in the Sugar Club. Now I know what you’re thinking, this is not classic rockers Dinosaur Jr., no this is an interesting eclectic mix of alternative jazz infused chillout, i guess you could call it? A perfect setting that is the Sugar Club this is certainly not one to miss! Wednesday evening we have another great show in the Sugar Club as Irish singer-songwriter Ailbhe Reddy will be performing. Reddy has really made a name for herself over the last year or so having performed at Other Voices in Dingle and getting radio play of her demo track “Cover Me”, she has also played the infamous Ruby Sessions and things are looking good for Ms. Reddy. Be sure to catch her and tickets are only €14.85!

Thursday night we kick off with Electro-house superstar Sigala performing a sold out show in The Academy, be sure to get out the face paint and glow sticks for that one! We also have a gig in the Old Punchbowl out in Booterstown, where John Spillane will be performing. Finally, over in Whelan’s, Befast rockers Pleasure Beach are performing, life is looking good for the Belfast group with a number of shows around Ireland planned they are certainly one to keep your eye on in the coming months.

Starting us off with the weekend festivities is a double header of fantastic Irish talent, and having seen both of these performers play in recent times, I can say they are both going to be huge. First off in The Grand Social we have Donna Dunne, a self-proclaimed retro-revamped rock n’ roll artist who’s influences range from Elvis to The Animals and Amy Winehouse. With the look and sound nailed down, be sure to check her out if you get a chance. Across the way in The Sound House we have Jem Mitchell. Jem who was born in North-East Dublin but moved to Los Angles when he was just 19 to focus on his songwriting. After playing in a number of bands he decided to go it alone and has a steady following with a plethora of live shows under his belt. Touching on elements of Alternative, Country and Americana, Jem and his band will blow your away and keep you dancing all night long!

Saturday night we have Lukas Graham performing in the Olympia Theatre, many will know the band lead by front man Lukas Forchhammer from the hit single “7 Years” which propelled them into the stratosphere and with over 400 million views for that song alone on YouTube. This gig is unfortunately sold out! But fear not as down the road in the Workman’s Club we have Bitch Falcon playing! Bitch Falcon have been mentioned on the Dublin Gig Guide before when they played alongside Le Galaxie at Dublin’s hottest new venue, The Bowery. With non-stop shows and very in-your-face brand of rock and roll they are really talented bunch and ones to catch if you can, tickets still available for this at €13!

Finally on Sunday night we have English rock band Elbow playing in the intimate setting of the Olympia. Elbow are embarking on a tour that consists of shows in Dublin, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester. The first of two sold out shows here in Dublin, both nights are bound to be fantastic! Then over in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre we have old favourites The Divine Comedy to close out the weekend!

Tricky one this week for our GIG OF THE WEEK but after much consideration we have chosen BITCH FALCON at Workman’s Club. Bitch Falcon really are making a name for themselves with loads of gigs all around Ireland, including support slots for Le Galaxie in The Bowery and another gig supporting the fantastic Girl Band this coming April. So that’s that! Thanks for check out our weekly Dublin Gig Guide, be sure to check back each week for more gigs, industry insights and more!
