Dublin Gig Guide : 20th – 26th November 2017

With Christmas just around the corner distract yourself with this weeks gigs! Loads on this week so let’s get on with it! Monday night we have indie rockers Wolf Parade performing at Button Factory! The 4-piece are currently embarking on a worldwide tour and are booked to play one show on Irish soil, their most recent album Cry Cry Cry was released last October and has fared very well in charts and has seen some very favourable reviews. Doors from 7.30PM! Over in Vicar Street, we have everybody’s favourite 00’s rapper Nelly! Nelly has fallen on some hard times recently with the IRS coming after him for $2.4 million in unpaid taxes & a number of other offences, but the music scene in Dublin will be more than happy to welcome the Country Grammar superstar back to our shores this Monday night! He also plays a second night on Tuesday as the Monday night is sold out! Few tickets remain for Tuesday at €40 a piece!

Tuesday we have 2012 X-Factor winner Jame Arthur playing at the 3 Arena in promotion of his 2016 album “Back From The Edge” which is his third headline tour promoting this album which kicked off in March of this year. Arthur also has special guest Ella Henderson joining him on this tour. Ella is currently working on her second album. Ella’s Debut album went platinum in first week of the release and reached numbed 1 in the UK album charts in 2014. Also on Tuesday night, we have Montreal based band TOPS. For “Sugar At The Gate”, their third and most ambitious album to date, Montreal’s TOPS peaced out to LA. They lived and recorded at “Glamdale”, a mini-mansion and former brothel located in the Jewel City, Glendale, CA.! They play upstairs in Whelan’s with doors from 8PM!

Wednesday night the Button Factory is hosting the Playback Project finals, for those of you who don’t know the playback project is a DJ competition set up to find and train a host of new up and coming Irish Dj’s. Also on Wednesday night, Mac DeMarco (A.K.A. 26-year old MacBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco) will be playing at Vicar Street! His latest release This Old Dog, which is his third album and first full-length since 2014’s Salad Days, was released on May 5th 2017. And right from the offset, from the pops and clicks of the CR-78 and acoustic strums on the album-opening “My Old Man,” and the synth-drenched beauty of the second track, “This Old Dog,” it’s clear that DeMarco’s bag is filled with new tricks indeed.

Thursday night we have Orange Tree Edits bossman Jimmy Rouge djing at Yamamori Tengu. Tengu has become a residential spot for Jimmy Rouge with a number of gigs on a weekly basis, be sure to make it down! Also over in the Button Factory we have Pussy Riot! Saturday night we have Queen and Adam Lambert headlining the 3 Arena and will be performing all the Queen’s greatest hits! For this tour, the band has unveiled a brand new show including a specially designed state-of-the-art production. The choice of performance material has acknowledged this year’s 40th anniversary of Queen’s biggest-selling studio album to date, News of the World from 1977, which yielded the immortal anthems “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”! This one is SOLD OUT! While in Whelan’s we have the fantastic Bitch Falcon! Hard to pin down, Bitch Falcon’s music is full of punch and grit with a rawness that defies. Saying the band excels at rock doesn’t sum them up, they simply excel at whatever it is they do. Their music is a blur of genres; hardcore, grunge and electro-pop blend seamlessly to create an unforgettable wall of sound. Exploding onto the scene in 2014 with future anthems ‘Wolfstooth’, ‘Syncope’, ‘TMJ’ and ‘Clutch’, their advancement has been relentless! Be sure to make it down! Also on Rhiannon Giddens playing Vicar Street after her fantastic performance at Whelans earlier in the year!
