Dublin Gig Guide : 23rd January - 29th January 2017
I’m not sure about you, but I have got that Friday Feeling! That means it’s time again for our weekly Dublin Gig Guide! We’re here to give you all the information you’ll need to plan the weeks gigs accordingly! So let’s get started!
Kicking off the week on Monday evening, we have four-time Grammy award winner Olivia Newton-John performing with special guests in the National Concert Hall, doors for this one are at 8PM so make sure to get down early! Tuesday night the Sugar Club hosts a very special show. Home Free, an American acapella group are performing, this one is going to be a bit different from your standard gig as it will be fully acapella! Definitely not one to miss, and even if it’s not your type of music it will be a great show. Moving onto Wednesday night, The Bowery in Rathmines, which has quickly become a new music venue hot-spot will be hosting Irish Indie-Folk Duo Hudson Taylor! They are playing Dublin as part of a small Irish tour which includes shows in Limerick and Waterford. If you’re free be sure to make it down, tickets are only €20 and still available now!
Thursday and Friday we have two gigs worth looking at, firstly at the Olympia Theatre on Thursday we’ve got Country superstar Mary Chaplin Carpenter, who will be performing all of her hits to what is sure to be a packed out crowd! Then on Friday night we have a local up-and-coming band from Dublin, Switzerland (No, not the country!) launching their debut album upstairs in Whelan's! Tickets for that are €8 or €12 and you get a copy of the album! A great deal!
Saturday night in Vicar Street there is a tribute to Luke Kelly. Dublin singer/songwriter Chris Kavanagh along with other special guests will be celebrating his memory and music for this show which is a 33rd year Anniversary Concert. Tickets are still available and will set you back €30! Ending out the week we have a very talented band by the name of Black Peaks showcasing their own style of alternative heavy rock. They are playing The Workman’s Club on Sunday night and it’s going to be a great show, be sure to get down and catch the lads from Brighton!
And finally it’s our GIG OF THE WEEK, this week was another tough one with Luke Kelly’s anniversary concert it is tough not to choose that, but we decided that instead of dwelling on the past, we should celebrate the future of Irish music, so this week’s gig of the week is HUDSON TAYLOR @ THE BOWERY! These lads are really going from strength to strength and will no doubt be household names in the years to come, they’re really keeping that Mumford & Sons style alternative folk alive in Ireland and we wish the lads all the best for the future!
