Dublin Gig Guide: 26th February – 4th March 2018

Dublin Gig Guide: 26th February – 4th March 2018

Let’s kick off this week’s Dublin Gig Guide with Indie-Pop act Imagine Dragons! They will be playing a SOLD OUT show as part of their Evolve Tour! The tour includes shows in America, Europe and the UK! Tickets flew out the door for this one! Also on Monday night composer Nils Frahm will be playing another SOLD OUT show at the National Concert Hall! After spending much of 2017 in hibernation in preparation for a busy period ahead, Nils will commence 2018 with his first live performances since 2015, and will embark on the beginning of a long worldwide tour entitled “All Melody” after his most recent album which was released last month!

Tuesday night, The Academy plays host to Dappy. Founding member of the Dub/Grime group N-Dubz, Dappy has since been through some legal trouble but has come out of it the other end and has embarked on small UK & Ireland tour, a few tickets still remain! Also on Tuesday, a previously featured artist on our Degrees of Light Charity album that was produced last year in aid of Aware, Farah Elle will be joined by Akora & Travis Is A Tourist! A whole heap of great music so get on down and tickets are only €5!

Wednesday night, we have indie-rock band Everything Everything will be playing an intimate show at the Olympia Theatre in promotion of their most recent album “A Fever Dream” which has been very well received by critics and fans alike! “A Fever Dream” is a rare and quite remarkable achievement: an album that is charged and political, that takes the temperature of the times, that will surely stand as one of the year’s most important albums, yet on a most visceral level is arresting, beautiful, tender, and thoroughly, irresistibly danceable. It is that exceptional kind of record that demands cerebral, emotional and physical response — as Higgs says: “You shouldn’t be sitting down the first time you hear it.” Limited tickets remain!

The Stranglers will be playing on Thursday night at the Olympia Theatre! With the vast catalogue of material that the Stranglers have in their recorded arsenal, it is never easy to decide exactly which songs to bring together on record or perform live on tour but, in March 2018, the band will present their “Definitive” collection. The Definitive Tour is set to coincide with the planned re-release of their first seven albums (six studio and one live) originally issued on the UA and EMI/Liberty labels.

Starting off the weekend with some Techno! Chris Liebing will be playing at Subject @ District 8. One of Techno’s long-serving stalwarts, Liebing is one of those artists, in the steadily and rapidly growing world of electronic music who has faithfully dedicated the past 25 years of his life to the performance, production, distribution and broadcasting of Techno on a global level! Support on the night from Moduse! Meanwhile, at The Tivoli Theatre, we have rock band Django Django! Their new album ‘Marble Skies’ was released on January 26th and has been descirbed by NME as “A fizzing, furious new wave and disco mash-up.”  “A giddy track fizzing with nervous energy.”  by The Sun and that “The galloping guitars and harmonies recall their first album” by The Times! Tickets still available at €22.50!

Saturday night, Electro Godfather Erol Alkan makes a welcome return to Dublin with a show at Wigwam on Middle Abbey St. (formally Twisted Pepper). Following his recent critically acclaimed ‘Reworks Volume 1’ collection, and 2017’s thirteen-week sell out XOYO residency in London, Erol Alkan takes the distinct sound of ‘To The Rhythm’ to Wigwam, for an all-night set at one of Dublin’s best-loved club spaces! while over in The Academy, British born Grim MC Mist will be performing! Birmingham-based grime MC Mist rose out of the mid-2010s grime resurgence, proving that you don’t have to be from London to be taken seriously in U.K. rap circles. Mist, like most grime artists, started out by dropping numerous mixtapes and freestyles, which very quickly started racking up millions of views online!

Finally, closing out the week is The Clockworks! Who will be playing at Whelan’s. Labelled as one of Hot Press Magazine’s ‘Ones To Watch in 2018’, the Galway four-piece have had their music on radio throughtout Ireland and the UK (RTE 2FM, iRadio, RTE 2XM, 4fm, Galway Bay FM, Flirt FM), as well as frightfully positive reviews from music press big-hitters such as Hot Press & Louder Than War UK, The Clockworks return, sat cross-legged and bold between the fine lines of ‘edgy indie’ and ‘tight punk’ with their new single “Rumours in the Stockroom”! Check it out here!

That’s it for this week folks! Our picks of the week are: Nils Frahm @ NCH, Chris Liebing @ District 8 & The Clockworks @ Whelan’s!
