As December creeps into our midst, we can still delay the entire Christmas shenanigans for another week or two at least! Thankfully you can distract yourself from the big fella' in the red suit with our next instalment of our weekly Dublin Gig Guide!
Easing us into the week on Monday night we have a sold out performance by Glen Hansard and his full band in none other than Vicar Street. The performance will include strings and brass so you can expect it to be a different gig in comparison to his solo shows! Always giving everything in any performance the "Falling Slowly" singer will definitely not disappoint, as he rarely has in the past. This is his first of twos shows this week and if you can get a ticket sorted we recommend catching either gig.
Tuesday evening seems a nice mix of music, with hip-hop/rapper Slick Rick grace the stage at Sugar Club, be sure to hear his hits "Children's Story" and "La Di Da Di", down the road in Whelan's Kate Tempest is performing her brand of spoken-word indie punk. Her album "Let Them Eat Chaos" is available now and is a very interesting adaption to live poetry performance in modern culture. Unfortunately this gig is sold out because I myself would love to catch the show! Finally for Tuesday night, Dr. Hook will be playing some classic rock over in the Olympia Theatre.
Wednesday we have Scottish psychedelic rockers Primal Scream gigging in the Olympia Theatre. Their most recent effort "Chaosmosis" has been described as the freest-sounding album the band have ever made, and was released in March of 2016. The band have recently done shows in Chile & Argentina and still have plenty left in the tank!
R&B pop sensation Anne-Marie is bringing her own take on the very "in" style of alternative pop that her and so many have adopted and swept the music industry in the past two years. You can expect to hear hits such as "Alarm" and "Do It Right" and support on the night is from Lao Ra, and Dan Caplen! Also on Thursday night the Super Furry Animals are taking over the stage at the Olympia Theatre, and coming off the back of a North American tour in early 2016 the boys from Cardiff will be bringing their style of classic alternative rock to our island once again!
As Friday night rolls around theres a jam-packed weekend ahead, techno-heads will no doubt be heading to see Daniel Avery live at District 8, while over in Whelan's, Jack L is performing off the back of a successful run at the Hollywood Fringe festival where he picked up 2 awards! Over in Vicar Street on Friday night, Passenger is treating us to the first of two shows this week, with his catchy style of radio friendly tunes they are both sure to be fantastic gigs if you can get down to either of them!
Saturday we have one of Dublin's hardest working bands Keywest playing a sold out show in The Academy, making a name for themselves busking in the streets of Dublin, Keywest have a massive following and this gig is not to be missed! Button Factory plays host to Wyvern Lingo also on Saturday night, the Wicklow 3-piece will be bringing their luscious harmonies and delicate but tough blend of organic sound to their fans.
But this week our Gig of the Week this week is Beardyman!! The beatbox sensation has graced our shores and wowed us many times previously. No doubt this show on Sunday night in the intimate setting of the Sugar Club will be the same. Accompanied by "The Dream Team Sessions", who knows what to expect from this body of world class session musicians, MC's and freestyle beat-boxers. Doors on Sunday are at 7pm and the show is expected to continued on until around 11pm. Tickets (at the time of writing) are still available and are going for €20 excluding booking fee, be sure to tag along and witness one of the best beatboxer's there is at the moment!
