Dublin Gig Guide : 30th October – 5th November 2017
It’s that spooky time of the year again, all the trick-or-treaters will be out in force and everyone will be in good spirits! Gig-wise it’s a jam packed week, and on Tuesday evening there is a number of Halloween themed events going on around the city so be sure to check your local listings for more information.
Kicking off with Monday, we have Steely Dan performing their second show over the course of the weekend! The second show as part of the BlueFest gigs alongside The Doobie Brothers! Tickets quickly sold out for the Saturday gig so if you want to grab one, be sure to be quick because there’s a few tickets left but they aren’t cheap! Tuesday night is Halloween night! No better way to celebrate than the with extreme metal band Cradle Of Filth! They will be performing at The Academy! Cradle Of Filth have been around since 1991 and are the leaders in the extreme death metal category. This tour is in lieu of their most recent album “Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay”, if you’ve never heard their music before, this album title tells you all you need to know! On the other side of town, Vicar Street plays host to Little Dragon! With their album “Season High” released in April of this year, the Swedish electronic act return to Ireland for the first time in three years and the album is the first from the group since 2014. Tickets €24.50 for this one! Northern Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance also plays on Tuesday night at The Olympia Theatre!
Wednesday night we have London Grammar performing a sold out show at the Olympia Theatre. As with their debut album “If You Wait” their most recent release, “Truth Is A Wonderful Thing” was written almost exclusively by Hannah, Dot and Dan who poured their experiences from thirty months on the road into the new material. The album was a smash hit and with producer Paul Epworth lending his hand to a number of tracks its no wonder!
Thursday night we have Indie super-group BNQT performing at The Button Factory. Lead by Travis’ frontman Fran Healy alongside Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand, Ben Bridwell from Band Of Horses, Eric Pulido of Midlake and Jason Lytle of Grandaddy! Other members include Jesse Chandler, Joey McClellan & McKenzie Smith from Midlake who are know to accompany the group as well! Their album “Volume 1″ was released in April and has been described as “remarkably coherent and listenable album that goes down very smooth, but not without the occasional moment of real emotion or foot-tapping fun.” Elsewhere, the Sugar Club hosts country singer Brandy Clark from 8.30pm!
Kicking off the weekend on Friday night we have Hothouse Flower Liam O’Maonlai & Cassandra Wilson performing in a very special show. Wilson will perform music from her forth coming project to be recorded in Cork in October 2017. A totally unique project in which Wilson brings together elements from America’s true musical art form, jazz and Ireland’s rich tradition of songwriting. Over in Button Factory we have Moxie! Moxie describe themself as “Electro, Jazz, House, and Rock. Delivering an energetic, wild and unique live show, who have been inspiring audiences and musicians with their new palette of 21st century Irish music.” Tickets €20 for this one!
Saturday we have a great double header with Boyce Avenue playing Olympia Theatre and The Academic playing Vicar Street. The Florida based band formed in 2004, and began posting videos of both original songs and covers. The videos went viral and their YouTube channel amassed over 3.1 billion views and over 9.4 million subscribers! Over in Vicar Street, The Academic will be performing their only headline show in Ireland this year. The lads recently created a viral video using Facebook Live. They used the delay to their advantage and used it to promote their latest single “Bear Claws” you can check out the full video here!
Closing out the week is Kiasmos who are an Icelandic experimental techno duo.!They released a 6-track EP earlier this year, including a remix from Bonobo! They put on a great live show and are definitely one to catch if you can! Tickets still available for this one at €29.40!
