Dublin Gig Guide : 4th – 10th December 2017

Dublin Gig Guide: 4th – 10th December 2017

With Friday fast approaching, we’re back with another Dublin Gig Guide! Many of the gigs on this week are unfortunately sold out! Not sure why, possible as the lead up to Christmas more people are deciding to head out for a night out? Who knows, but at least it’s good news for the artists performing as the venues will be full! Anyway, enough digressing, let’s get on with whats going on around town!

Monday night as always kicks us off with Dr. Hook playing a sold out show in the Olympia! For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Hook was an internationally recognisable household name throughout the 70’s and 80’s, enjoying global chart success for the fifteen years the band was together.  Dr Hook continues to top the charts today with releases such as the latest double disc set, Timeless from Universal Music, put together by founding member and distinctive lead vocalist Dennis Locorriere.  The album release was followed by a world tour of the same name, which came to the UK and Ireland in 2016 resulting in a series of sell-out performances. Due to overwhelming public demand, the tour has been extended into 2017 performs another sold out gig at The Olympia Theatre!

The Coronas recently released an extraordinary new album, Trust The Wire – a week one number ONE record in the Irish charts. A sonic leap on from its predecessors, this new record sees the award-winning, arena-conquering band fuse their arms-aloft melodic pop with lush electronics, spine-tingling atmospherics and a new-found sense of adventure. They will play another sold out show at the Olympia Theatre on Tuesday evening!

Following a whirlwind 18 months since the release of his debut album Bitter Pill; which saw Gavin James sell over 2 million singles worldwide, amass ½ billion streams, perform to over 3 million people and hit No.1 with his breakout single ‘Nervous’ everywhere from Ireland all the way to Brazil, Gavin James has established himself as one of the leading breakthrough artists of the past year. He plays the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from 7PM!

Like all truly great artists, Chris Rea has followed his own unique artistic vision and a path that is his and his alone. And although his exemplary musical output to date is deeply embedded into the framework of the world’s rock n roll DNA, it is also safe to say that his presence has been something of a glittering thorn in the side of an industry that has always had him down as a perennial outsider. He plays a sold out show at the Olympia so he must be doing something right!

HamsandwicH will perform a string of three nights at Whelan’s! With all three nights completely sold out, they’re proving that they are still one of the hottest and best bands to see in Ireland. They plan Thursday, Friday & Saturday night in the main venue! Also on Thursday night we have Josh Ritter! Who’s acclaimed 20-year career as a songwriter and musician reaches new heights with the release of his ninth full-length album, Gathering.  Along with his loyal bandmates, the Royal City Band, Josh returned to the studio with more songs than he’d ever had before at one time, and with a collaboration with legendary musician Bob Weir he felt it was time for a new album!

After a run of sold out acclaimed shows in 2016 and early 2017, The Divine Comedy adds a second Olympia Theatre show to their National Irish Tour this Saturday 9th December! Continuing on, they will perform a string of shows Nationwide making a stop off at Cork, Limerick, Derry,  and Belfast with special guests Pugwash!

Starting off the weekend we have the violin virtuoso, André Rieu! Rieu is quite simply a musical phenomenon like no other, in has career he has sold a massive 40 million CDs and DVDs and notched 30 #1 chart positions worldwide. Along with his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra (the largest private orchestra in the world), André has created a global revival in waltz music, staging spectacular extravaganzas which are second to none. Tickets still available at €45+!
Lankum (formally Lynched) are one of the most talked about bands to come out of Ireland in decades. They’re a Dublin four-piece who combine distinctive four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, accordion, fiddle and guitar. They always put on a fantastic show and this should be no different! Closing out the weekend we have LANY performing Sunday night at The Grand Social!
