Dublin Gig Guide: 4th – 10th September 2017
It’s that time of the week again! Our Dublin Gig Guide strives to give you all the insights into whats going on around the city and what’s worth going to see! With Electric Picnic just a hazy-faded memory, we continue on with this week’s live gigs!
First off, on Monday night the Button Factory plays host to one of the most influential math-rock post-rock bands to ever grace the earth. With only two full-length album releases and one EP, American Football have a huge following. The band started up in 1997 and lasted until 2000, but with many other projects on the go AF took a backseat and the band mutually decided to split. After the 14-year hiatus, the band decided to reform and wrote a new album which was released in 2016! Tickets sold out for this one!
Tuesday night, we have Owen (Of American Football) performing at Whelan’s! One of the side projects of American Football’s Mike Kinsella, Owen is an softer acoustic side to Kinsella than what most would be used to with AF. With 10 albums under his belt, his most recent effort released last year in 2016 titled “The King OF Whys” has been recieved very well with some reviews stating “A lush, affecting album that probes life’s complexities.” Doors at 8pm! Meanwhile over in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, we have the Pet Shop Boys performing as part of The Super Tour! Neil Tennant & Chris Lowe, better know as Pet Shop Boys released their 13th album last April. The lead single “The Pop Kids” was received favourably well and reached #1 in the UK charts! They play two shows this time around tickets still available priced between €59.50 and €69.50!
Thursday night we have Texas playing at the Olympia Theatre! The Scottish pop band have recently released their most latest effort “Jump On Board” to critical acclaim. The album had a feel of a band that were totally comfortable with themselves, marked with distinct flair and originality. With many more years left in the tank be sure to grab a ticket for this one as their Friday night show is SOLD OUT! Over in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, we have Tori Amos! Tori’s hotly anticipated new album will be released through Decca Records on the 8th of September and that will be followed by a world tour! Native Invader is set to be her 15th studio album and her first on Decca Records and is set to be one of the best. Tickets still available from the usual outlets at €69.50.
Kicking us off with a fairly quite weekend on Friday night we have Mick Flannery on at Whelan’s. Mick has been performing around Dublin and the country forever. One of the great performers of his generation he always draws big crowds. This time around he has Casey Black on the support who is an established artists in his own right. The two make for a great night of singer-songwriter goodness!
Closing out the weekend on Saturday night we have our very own Will Kinsella performing under his alias Hybrasil at the Button Factory! Just off a season performing in Ibiza with some of the biggest names in techno including Carl Cox, Eats Everything, and many more! Will returns to his homeland for a once off gig at the Button Factory so expect to hear the thumping beats that remind us of Ibiza!
