Dublin Gig Guide: 5th – 11th February 2018

Dublin Gig Guide: 5th – 11th February 2018

It’s that time of the week once more! So let’s not hang around and get straight into it!

The hit music & comedy show The Night Joe Dolan’s Car Broke Down is returning to The Olympia Theatre from Monday 5th to Saturday 10th February 2018 (including a matinee performance on Sat 10th Feb). This will be the show’s 7th run at The Olympia, where it has been enjoyed by over 50,000 people to date! This December marks the tenth anniversary of Joe’s passing. Tickets from €29.50!

Tuesday evening, George Evelyn better known as Nightmares On Wax plays at District 8! Iconic Warp mainstay Nightmares on Wax can now announces his long-anticipated return with new album Shape The Future. The marriage of soul, hip-hop, dub and timeless club sounds that N.O.W. has been mutating and perfecting for years finds perhaps its most fluid form yet on Shape The Future! Doors from 7PM! Also on Tuesday, British Sea Power will be performing at Whelan’s to kick off their short tour of Ireland & UK!

Wednesday night Kendrick Lamar will be playing a sold out show at the 3 Arena! THE DAMN. TOUR follows the release of his critically acclaimed fourth album DAMN. with a debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 – marking his third time at the top spot – selling north of 2.3 million album units to date and having amassed over 400 million streams and features 14 tracks observing the complexities of today’s culture. Pitchfork cites “DAMN. is a widescreen masterpiece of rap, full of expensive beats, furious rhymes, and peerless storytelling about Kendrick’s destiny in America,” and Rolling Stone declares DAMN. a “dazzling display of showy rhyme skills, consciousness-raising political screeds, self-examination and bass-crazy-kicking…”. Doors at 6.30PM for this one! Also on Wednesday night, The MAvericks will be playing at Vicar Street. The genre-defying Mavericks are declaring their independence and stepping out on their own with Brand New Day, the first studio album released on Mono Mundo Recordings, the label they founded in 2016. Brand New Day is the follow-up to the widely praised albums Mono (2015) and In Time (2013)! Doors 8PM for that one!

A firm Dublin favourite will be performing at the 3 Arena on Thursday night, The Script recently released their latest effort, Freedom Child and have announced they will play three completely sold out shows in promotion! The Script are one of the world’s most successful bands and have sold over 29 million records. The Irish three-piece have scored x3 multi-platinum albums, all of which were #1 in the UK. The Script have also picked up a huge following in the USA where they have x4 platinum selling singles under their belt!

Kicking off the weekend we have Ben Nicky performing at the Button Factory from 11PM on Friday while on Saturday we have Dimitri From Paris at the same venue and I Draw Slow playing at Whelan’s!

On Sunday night we have a blast from the past as Franz Ferdinand will be playing at the Olympia Theatre! The are due to release their newest album on February 9th titled ‘Always Ascending‘. FF have been a household name since their debut album back in 2002 and were apart of the huge new Indie Rock/NME wave of the early noughties and have been going strong ever since! Limited tickets remaining! And closing out Sunday evening we have symphonic metal masters Therion performing their new Metal Opera ‘Beloved Antichrist’ at the Tivoli theatre! Doors at 6PM for this one!
