At the time of writing we are still heavily snowed under and with a number of shows postponed last week hopefully by the time you’re reading this Storm Emma will be a thing of the past! Kicking us off on Monday is experimental Trad act The Gloaming who will be performing a string of dates over the course of the week and all of them are sold out! They are due to be on-stage at 8PM sharp!
Tuesday night, we have Squeeze frontman Chris Difford performing at Whelan’s. As a member of one of London’s best-loved bands, the Squeeze co-founder has made a lasting contribution to English music with hits such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Labelled With Love’, ‘Hourglass’ and ‘Tempted’. Despite the fact that Chris has helped soundtrack so many fans’ lives since his first release in 1977, the passion for innovation and love of playing still drives him to carry on writing rather than sit back and admire his handiwork. Doors at 8Pm and tickets are €22.50! Also on Tuesday night, we have the infamous Alabama 3 who will be playing at The Academy. The group who are well known for their music including most notably the theme track to mafia-gangsters style hit TV show, The Sopranos!
Wednesday evening, Whelan’s plays host to Elli Ingram! Ingram, whose widely acclaimed mini-album ”The Doghouse” marked her out as an artist of unusual complexity and power for one so young, finally released, via Island Records, the eagerly awaited Love You Really, proving conclusively what all the fuss was about for this 24 year old Brighton native. The three songs which heralded the release of the album ‘Table For Two’, ‘Better Alone’ and ‘Stone Cold’ and the accompanying visuals, as well as the stunning album cover, point to an artist of rare honesty who continues to provoke thought and challenge with her music.
Thursday evening, young energetic rock band The Strypes will be playing at The Bowery in Rathmines! Fresh off the back of a fantastic headline tour of the UK to celebrate the release of their third record, The Strypes have announced a brand new EP – ‘Almost True’ which comes alongside some brand new US tour dates which the band have booked for Spring 2018! Support on the night is from Accidents In The Workplace & Sub-Motion! Also on thursday night is Temple Bar’s best new music night as the WindowSeat Sessions takes place in CrowBar! Head over to their Facebook page and give them a like to keep up-to-date with who’s playing each week!
A busy weekend ahead starting on Friday as Maya Jane Coles headlines District 8! Somewhat of an enigma in today’s music world; on a typical Maya Jane Coles record, Maya will have written, produced, engineered, arranged, mixed and performed every element of the track; sometimes top-lining and, on most occasions, even designing the sleeve artwork too! She returns to District 8 with doors at 11PM! Over in the Button Factory we have Lazar Hoche performing. Not to be mistaken as the French soldier who rose to be general of the Revolutionary army, Charlie Naffah, who is also known as Lazare Hoche! The French House artist has been at the forefront of the house scene at home in France and internationally. Boss of his own label Lazare Hoche Records and one third of prodigious group, Mandar. This is house royalty at it’s finest! Finally for Firday night, those of you who fancy a more rock based gig can head down to Whelan’s where a Searclight 2017 band Search Party Animal will be playing! Door sat 7.30pm for that one and it promises to be a great night!
Saturday night, Daniel Avery will be performing at District 8! Fresh off of the announcement of his brand new album “Song For Alpha”, out on Phantasy on 6th April, Daniel has made a name for himself as one of Dublin’s favourite DJ’s! Doors at 11PM!
Finally for Sunday night, DVSN will be playing at The Academy. Over the summer, the Canadian duo—Daniel Daley and Nineteen85—began teasing out Morning After’s impending release as their dedicated fan base immediately embraced the new music. The first single “Think About Me” has already amassed over 15 million cumulative streams and counting, while “Don’t Choose” surpassed 6 million and “Mood” racked up 2 million-plus! Also on Sunday the 3 Arena will host Country-2-Country! The best in American country music at the 3 Arena!
