Dublin Gig Guide – 6th – 12th March 2017
We’re back with our weekly Dublin Gig Guide providing you with all the information you’ll need to plan this weeks gigs around Dublin City! So let’s get started, kicking off the week on Monday evening we have a double header of Irish performances, of very different nature albeit. In the National Concert Hall we have contemporary Irish supergroup The Gloaming are performing the first of a seven gig stint, all of which are sold out! Formed in 2011 the supergroup has expanded the roots of traditional Irish music and developed it into something really special. You can tell just how special these shows are going to be as they sold out in no time at all! Meanwhile over in the Sound House on the Quays, we have Irish outfit Little Green Cars. The Irish 5-piece have become worldwide sensations over the past few years, with gigs in SXSW in Texas and Coachella in California they are no stranger to massive crowds and always perform their style of Indie rock to the best of their ability, expect some fantastic 3 & 4 part harmonies and a packed house!
Tuesday night sees rock n’ roll take centre stage with The Amazon’s in Whelan’s, and Zig Zags over in The Grand Social. The Amazon’s formed in 2014 in Reading, England and with a number of releases under their belts in 2016 the band have been tipped to be one to watch in 2017, also being named as a band to listen to by both NME and BBC Radio 1. Gracing us at the Grand Social is Los Angeles trio, Zig Zags. A band that when you first listen to you think to yourself “Wow these guys could have been bumping shoulders with Black Sabbath and Led Zep’ back in the day”. Energetic, fast, and heavy rock n’ roll with elements of punk thrown in, this is one for the headbangers!
Wednesday we have a chilled out night of music in Whelan’s with Wild Child. Wild Child will be performing their style of Indie pop at 8 PM, with 3 albums worth of material and no doubt some new songs on the horizon it’s bound to be a great night!
On Thursday night we have the RTE Choice Music Prize Award in Vicar Street. In association with IMRO and IRMA, the night will consist of live performances from some of Ireland’s top acts at the moment including, All Tvvins, Wallis Bird, Overhead, The Albatross and We Cut Corners. Previous winners include The Divine Comedy, Jape, Two Door Cinema Club and Delorentos! Tickets are still available at €26.50!
Friday night we have a homegrown up-and-comers The Felonies (who recently performed at Sound Training’s Searchlight Gig in Button Factory) will be launching their single “Repetition” at the Workman’s Club. The Felonies are a very talented bunch with their brand of alternative rock, and if there Button Factory gig for Searchlight was anything to go by these lads put on a fantastic live show be sure to make it down and support some local Irish talent! Over in the 3 Arena is a huge Country Music gig. Country 2 Country has been around the past few years and is a one-stop-shop for all your country music needs! Possibly not the most popular genre of music and even with fewer gigs happening, C-2-C covers all basis, with Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band, two of the hottest names in country music today, its time to lace up those snake-skin boots and gas up the truck for what is going to be a special night of music!
Saturday night we have Irish act Gypsies on the Autobahn playing Whelan’s. After releasing their album Born Brief on the 24th of February. No doubt the lads will have any venue the play packed out as they have created quite a following over the past number of years, be sure to check them out!
Over in the Convention Centre we have a special gig in aid of Haiti, this Gala concert will feature performances from Riverdance, Kila, Roisin O and The Line-Up Choir and will be presented by Riverdance director John Colgan. The gig is to support recovery in Haiti after the devastating destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew. You can help play a part in helping the people of Haiti to rebuild their lives.
Finally on Sunday night we have the Hothouse Flowers performing in Vicar Street. With the launch or a new album “Let’s Do This Thing” the lads return to the legendary Vicar Street before heading off to play a number of shows across the pond in the UK.
So our GIG OF THE WEEK this week has got to be the Gala Concert to help aid Haiti. Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti on the 4th of October 2016 and left widespread damage and devastation to the small Caribbean country. Haiti was recovering from ongoing-outbreak of cholera and an earthquake in 2010 and many of the house had not yet been rebuilt. Every little helps towards this massive humanitarian job and let’s try do our part!
Thanks for checking out this weeks Dublin Gig Guide! We’ll see you back here same time next week!
