Dublin Gig Guide 7th January -15th January
First off let me wish everyone a happy new year! Hopefully 2017 will be one to remember as 2016 was one to forget music wise 🙁 Anyway not to dwell on the past lets crack on, as the case can be with this time of the year there is a number of gigs on over the next week but the quality is not what is to be desired, but there are some good things happening so let’s get into it!
Kicking off the weekend we have a big double header for the metal fans out there, Avenged Sevenfold headline a night at the 3Arena with support from Disturbed. Following the death of their drummer and songwriter “The Rev” in 2009, Avenged Sevenfold enlisted the help of Mike Portnoy on drums and continued touring in 2010. With a few line-up changes since and a new album which was released in October 2016 they are back to their best and with support from Disturbed who in their own right, have been churning out heavy rock since the early noughties it’s sure to be a very loud night! Also on Saturday evening Berlin resident David August will be performing his own brand of electronica, doors for this one are 11 bells.
Sunday night sees Vicar Street hold host to a David Bowie tribute act – Rebel, Rebel. With a number of shows already under there belt this is a must for any Bowie fan, tickets for this are currently at €28 and still available get them while you can!
No major headliners on Monday night unfortunately so we'll skip on until Tuesday which brings Swedish power metal group Sabaton to Vicar Street, if you've never heard of Sabaton check them out now! Think high speed Japanese video game music, very uplifting and powerful! Wednesday night brings that old familiar face of Christy Moore to Vicar Street for the first of two shows this week and as always both shows will be fantastic. Thursday night the Sugar Club plays host to Lee Fields & The Expressions, if you’re in the mood for some R&B with a hint of soul then this is the gig for you, with a voice and look to match James Brown you would be mad to miss this show, and the Sugar Club is the perfect venue for such a gig as well. Friday night we have a one of a kind show with Ruts DC performing. The classic punk rockers will be banging out their classic punk tracks along with some new material in Hanger (Formally Andrews Lane Theatre). Finally ending the week we have Jojo performing all her well know classic pop tunes in The Academy, doors for this are at 7 PM.
This weeks gig of the week has got to be Avenged Sevenfold at the 3 Arena! A great live band and they always put on a fantastic & energetic live show with support from experienced rockers Disturbed it will be one to remember!
