Searchlight 2017: Meet the Bands
The Searchlight Development Deal is well underway, with the bands chosen and already hard at work on pre-production with the students. The Searchlight Development Deal is an annual project during which our Advanced Studio Engineering students undertake the task of producing and recording up and coming artists.
This year’s Searchlight Showcase gig will take place in the Button Factory in January 2017.
Electronic Music Production Night: DOME
Each year some of the Second Year students put on a showcase of their electronic music in the Button Factory. Following the success of Transmit last year, the students this year have put together a collective called “DOME“. DOME is a collective of up and coming electronic musicians, experimenting with new sounds and making some great music!
DOME took place in the Button Factory on the 19th of May.
War at the Button
War at the Button is an exciting new Sound Training Productions venture and a great opportunity for bands to push themselves to the next level. It’s a chance to play in the Button Factory, one of the biggest and best venues in Dublin, and on top of that the chance to win the ultimate recording package.
It’s also a chance to see Sound Training College Alumni working on a professional live gig in one of Dublin’s premiere venues. Some of the heats coincide with Sound Training College Open Days, so it’s a chance for prospective students of the college to get a firsthand look at their potential future career.
My Lovely Horse EP Launch
My Lovely EP is a charity album in aid of My Lovely Horse Rescue charity. Neil Hannon collaborated with Duke Special on a brand new track written especially for the album. The album also features some excellent tracks by the likes of We Cut Corners, Paddy Hanna and No Monster Club along with many others.
The launch night saw Neil Hannon and Duke Special perform along with Paddy Hanna, No Monster Club, The Late David Turpin, Gar Cox and special guests. It was a great success, with a big crowd and lots of donations made to a worthy cause.
Each year, Advanced Sound Engineering Students at STC undertake the task of producing and recording four up and coming artists. These artists record 2 songs each in an intensive recording process, including extensive pre-production, recording and mixing.
The deal culminates with a showcase night in the Button Factory, Temple Bar, attended by industry professionals. The last few showcases have been a major success, with the Button Factory reaching full capacity.

Electronic Music Production Night: Transmit
This year saw our first Electronic Music Production night; Transmit, which took place in the Button Factory. Transmit was set up by our 2nd Year students in the style of underground Berlin techno clubs. There was an extremely successful Transmit showcase in the Button Factory, which was not only run by students, but also engineered by students and featured performances by students and alumni. Transmit continues to be a success, with plenty of gigs and events in the pipeline.
Transmit was our first Electronic Music Production night, but we look forward to working with students on more electronic nights in the future.
