Here at Sound Training College we do our utmost to keep up-to-date with what our graduates are up to. We feel it is very important to see how their careers are developing and this year is no different. Recently, we got to talk to a number of our Studio Engineering & Music Production and Live Sound, Lighting & Stage Production graduates to see what they thought of the course, what their experience was like and what they are doing with themselves now!
Both our Studio Engineering & Music Production and Live Sound, Lighting & Stage Production courses prepare our students for work in the real world. Throughout the academic year, we provide knowledge, guidance and expert hands-on tuition through tutorials, lectures, and workshops. For the Studio Engineering & Music Production course, students have access to professional recording studio Sun Studios, where they learn how to produce, record, mix and master all styles of music, using high-end microphones, outboard gear and state of the art recording consoles!
As for the Live Sound, Lighting & Stage Production course, students have access to one of the top live music venues Button Factory, where they will learn a hands-on approach to live sound combined with everything that goes with running events and the "behind the scenes" elements that get these events up and running.
EMP Night
Our two diploma courses work together throughout the year on a number of different projects. One of which is an Electronic Music Production night. Students will work on composition, production and performance of their own original music and will perform their music to a live audience. All the lights, sound and stage production is provided by the Live Sound course while the Studio Engineering course are performing! This year's EMP night was a huge success and led to the MODEM collective landing a residency slot in CrowBar, Temple Bar!
Charity Album
Another element of both courses every year is a Charity Album. Previous charity albums have featured some big names such as Gavin James, James Vincent McMorrow, Craig Gallagher, and many more! In conjunction with Sound Training Productions, a full album of songs is produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by STC students and features some of the countries finest up-and-coming artists, all for a great cause!
Searchlight
Another fantastic part of the year is Searchlight. The Searchlight Development deal is where second year diploma students work with up-and-coming bands and help them produce, record and mix two tracks. Including an extensive pre-production, recording and mixing stages. The final piece of the Searchlight puzzle is a showcase gig in the Button Factory where the bands who took part, perform to a live audience. The gig on the night is run by both courses and has been extremely successful!
Here's to our Students and their continued success in the future!
