Dublin Gig Guide : 5th – 11th December

Dublin Gig Guide 5th - 11th December

We're back this week with our Dublin Gig Guide! This week sees a large number of homegrown talent as well as international starts gracing our shores! Starting off the week we have punk-rockers Pierce the Veil performing the first of two shows in Dublin this week before the head back to the States for a number of shows before Christmas. Also on Monday night english rock outfit Ocean Colour Scene play the first of their two shows as well this week, and both gigs are on in the Olympia which is the perfect setting and a great start to the week!

The highlight of Tuesday evening, apart from the second shows from Ocean Colour Scene & Pierce The Veil, is singer-songwriter, Dan Owen who will be performing at the Ruby Sessions in Doyle's Bar (he also has a show in Whelan's later in the month). Listening to Mr. Owens voice for the first time you would not be mistaken for Bruce Springsteen or Ray LaMontagne. With this show only costing you a measly €6 it is definitely not to be missed!

Wednesday night is going to be a popular one for anyone who's a fan of the late, great singer-songwriter Nick Drake. Vicar Street plays host to the Colour Bars Experience as they perform the songs of Drake for what is sure to be a great night. Thursday night plays host to the infamous Andre Rieu as he brings his energetic and creative take on classical orchestral performances to the 3Arena. Also on Thursday night teenage rockers The Strypes perform at the Olympia theatre, The Strypes have really blown up over the past year and are a great live act, looking like a mix between The Beatles & Arctic Monkeys, they don't sound too dissimilar to either! Be sure to check them out!

We kick the weekend off with a number of Irish talents, the 3Arena plays hots to Gavin James on Friday night at 6.30PM. The "Bitter Pill" singer will no doubt put on a great show and after playing a number of shows around the world this is Mr. James first gig in the 3Arena and it is gearing up to be a fantastic show. Be sure to snap up a ticket before they're all gone! On a sadder note, Fight Like Apes final ever show will be played on Friday night also, this is going to be an emotional one after a 10-year career the Apes have decided to call it a day mainly due to financial constraints but this show as you can imagine is SOLD OUT!

Chicago act Hypnotic Brass Ensemble bring their unique brand of jazz-funk to the stage of the Sugar Club, a home away from home for the 8-piece & it is always a fantastic night of music and partying!

Saturday night English alt-rockers Placebo perform at the 3Arena in support of their world tour for the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the platinum selling debut album "Placebo". Tickets still available for this one and doors are at 6.30! Also on Saturday night Irish indie rock outfit Heroes In Hiding play a gig with guests in Opium Rooms, tickets a minuscule €12 it will be a great show if you can make it down!

Finally, rounding off a fantastic week of live music around the city are two shows by very familiar names around the Irish music scene. The Coronas will be performing in the Olympia Theatre with their familiar style of pop-rock to a sold out crowd! On the other side of town, Lisa Hannigan plays the intricate setting of Vicar Street. Both shows are great ways to end out another week.

But our gig of the week this week has got to be FIGHT LIKE APES! As mentioned previously, the Irish alt rockers are playing their final show and it's going to be a memorable one! Thanks for the tunes! 🙁

As Christmas approaches all of the gigs mentioned are great ways to postpone the christmas shopping and decorating for another week!
